Olympic Weightlifting Workshops!!

We are super excited to be bringing not one but 2 olympic weightlifting workshops to Strong Like a Mutha!

If you aren’t already aware Olympic Weightlifting is an incredible sport in which athletes compete in lifting a barbell loaded with weight plates from the ground to overhead, with the aim of successfully lifting the heaviest weights. Athletes compete in two specific ways of lifting the barbell overhead. The snatch is a wide-grip lift, in which the weighted barbell is lifted overhead in one motion. The clean and jerk is a combination lift, in which the weight is first taken from the ground to the front of the shoulders (the clean), and then from the shoulders to over the head (the jerk).

We love Oly lifting at SLAM because it’s a movements style that gives us SO much - you are challenged in strength, agility, proprioception and mindset and the feeling of achievement is second to none! We are big advocates of encouraging adults to learn new skills and in the spirit of community and connection we are bringing not one but TWO competitive olympic weightlifters to put us through our paces! 

Introducing Kieran and Paul! Paul is a PT, Weightlifting Coach and father of 2! He currently coaches people ranging from 8 to 69! He loves training and sees it as a crucial part of life. He has been lifting for 7 years and is still working towards his goals! He is the current British Masters champion and a multiple time Scottish record holder. Kieran is an Olympic Weightlifter and Coach, as well as an S&C Coach. He has been training and competing in Olympic Weightlifting since the age of 14, representing Scotland at age group level along the way.

Kieran and Paul are Lyndsey (SLAM Founder)’s coaches and she champions them as being inclusive, supportive and the best cheerleaders around and we are super excited to be able to bring them to SLAM to share their incredible knowledge and expertise. 

We’ll be hosting two workshops and you can come to one or both! You don’t have to have any experience in olympic weightlifting but some general knowledge of lifting weights (squats, deadlifts bench etc) is recommended. 

Workshop 1 - Snatch - 21.05.23 

Workshop 2 - Clean and Jerk - 04.06.23 

Both workshops will be from 12-2.30pm

Due to the nature of these workshops spaces are extremely limited so advance booking is advised. SLAM members have first refusal on spaces, from 03.05.23 we will be releasing any remaining spaces to the general public.
